New York Hotel

I was planning a visit to my grandmother in Malaysia, Johor for a few days. Not wanting to stay too far from my family, I decided to choose a hotel closer to the family home and went for New York Hotel.

I arrived at 12pm, looking at the condition of the exterior of the hotel, I was wondering how my experience would turn out to be. Well, never judge a book by its cover.

I was well received by the hotel reception until I was asked to pay RM10 a day for tourism tax and I thought Agoda had everything covered. Hmm… but anyway I was offered a room suitable to my demands. I usually would go for high floor with good views, a better room with king size bed and a quieter room. Truthfully, I was offered a room on the 20th floor and it fit my requirements. The room was clean, and the condition of the bathroom was at acceptable standard. The view of the city was fine but perhaps they should clean the windows due to stains. I couldn’t capture a ‘clean’ shot of the city.

WIFI network is strong and I very much like that due to my work but the TV programs were very limited. There were only 8 channels to choose from.

However, the best thing I like about this hotel is it location. It was only 5 minutes walk to my grandma’s house. There are restaurants around the hotel which opens 24 hours. The best part was that it was near some of the best street stalls I had ever eaten since childhood, many were still operating till this very day.

Travelling to other parts of the city were not too much of a distance as well. As usual for me, I would always Grab my way around so for me to travel to City Square at Central City will probably cost me RM5 or travel to Duty Free Zone will probably cost me about RM8. I always love to shop at Jusco Tebrau City especially after its extension and travelling there probably cost RM12 to RM14, depending on peak and off-peak period.

The one main upset for me about this hotel is the swimming pool. I doubt anyone would want to swim in a pool of freezing cold water.
